Surprise

Hey, everybody. It’s Shayne. Ugh, I was having an awful day. After a rough day at school, I went straight to babysitting Ljubljana. I know, that’s a strange name. It’s pronounce Loobly-ana.

Anyway, I left her sitting on the floor and went to the kitchen to get a snack.

 

Crying came from the other room. I sighed and went to see what was wrong, without grabbing food.

Ljubljana had fallen over.

I walked over and picked her up.

I figured I’d just bring Ljubljana with me to get food, but then, I was interrupted my the sound of snarling and paper ripping.

I turned, and saw that Honey had gotten a hold of my notebook from my backpack.

When Honey saw me, she snatched up the notebook and ran away.

When I finally got a hold of it, it was covered in slobber. Gross!

I was so glad to get home. Natalie met me at the bedroom door.

“Hey, Shayne. You look really tired.”

“Yeah, it was a really rough day.”

“Well, I’m sorry to hear that. I have something that might make you feel better, though.”

She left and returned with a box.

 

“I got you a present for your birthday.”

“Aww, thanks, Nat! Honestly, I was having such a bad day, I kind of forgot it was my birthday.”

“Well, open it.”

 

We sat down and I opened the box.

The box contained a new dress!

“Thanks so much, Natalie!”

“Go put it on and get your hair done. Meet me back here in twenty minutes.”

Puzzled, I went to my room to get dressed.

“Hey, Shayne. That dress looks great on you.”

“Thanks! You look great, too.”

“Ok, come on.”

We walked down a few blocks to a small cafe.

“What are we doing here?” I asked.

“You’ll see.”

We walked in. Natalie led me through the cafe.

“Happy Birthday, Shayne!”

Johnnie Ray, Chai, Maridelle, Chental, Ginny, Kendra, and Alissa stood in the corner.

I was shocked.  “Guys, you planned a party for me??”

“I thought it would be nice for some of us older girls to have a night out. Bella and Carli are babysitting.”

“Thanks so much, guys. You’re the best sisters I could ever wish for.”
